The World Cup 2010 boost William Hill Revenue and popularity

Popular online casino site William Hill has reported that their revenues were dramatically boosted by the recent 201o Soccer World Cup hosted in South Africa this summer.

The online casino and bookmaker, has suggested that net revenue increased by 3%, with purely online revenue increasing by 24%. According to figures released today, William Hill’s overall profit from 1st January – 29th June totalled £135 million.

According to reports released by William Hill, revenue was considerably boosted by “in-play” online betting on tournament matches. However, in our recent news item on Paul – the octopus who correctly predicted the outcome of the World Cup, William Hill suggested they had lost £500 million from the aquatic creature’s football know-how. Ralph Topping, the chief executive of William Hill, has suggested that the figures published highlight how the World Cup has “proved to be one of the best for bookmakers in 40 years”.
