Basic Craps Rules – Pass Line Bets
Craps is played on a table with a series of varied bets which are laid out before you. The game involves the roll of two dice and the bets are determined by the outcome of each roll. Each combination of rolls offers various odds which the players must make to win. Craps can be played by one or more players, each placing bets which are covered by the casino.
The Pass Line Bet
The first craps player to roll the dice is called the shooter. They must place a bet which must be at least the table minimum. This bet is called either the Pass Line or Don’t Pass Line bet and these lines are clearly marked out on the craps table. If a bet is placed on the Pass Line, the shooter will make the first roll, this is called the come-out roll.
The craps shooter must make the come-out roll with the intention of scoring a seven or an 11. If this is achieved then any bets on the Pass Line become winners. If a two, three or 12 are rolled this will result in a loss for the Pass Line bets, the shooter will crap out and a new player will throw.
If a win is achieved on the come-out roll the craps shooter will carry on his round until he craps out unless he rolls a four, five, six, eight, nine or 10. This then becomes a point. The dealer will then move a marker which says On to the point number and the craps shooter will continue to roll until the point is rolled which is a win. If a seven is rolled the shooter will crap out and the bet is lost.
This works in the same way for the Don’t Pass bets but is opposite to the Pass Line bets. So a win for the Pass Line is a loss for the Don’t Pass Line.
